“Father?”
When Glen moved in shock, his father pulled him close again.
“Be quiet and listen. The current King of Simoni is just a puppet. The real one controlling the kingdom is the Berne Marquis. Since we have been enemies for so long, I understand better than anyone how that man thinks.”
His father’s breath touched Glen’s neck.
“If we surrender before Simoni invades our country, he will probably end things with reparations alone. Simoni only recently finished a civil war, so they do not have the strength to push deep into our land and continue another war.”
His father continued in a low voice.
“The important thing is surrendering before enemy troops enter our country. If the enemy army steps into Tyron territory, those soldiers will be the forces of Simoni’s lords. The Marquis will probably avoid acting personally and instead send those lords…
