Jamie looked a little confused at my abrupt question.
“Huh? Ah, yes. That’s right.”
“What sound should I make?”
“Do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-do?”
“It won’t be that simple.”
“Sis! Aren’t you done yet?”
“Hold on!”
This side is struggling, too!
“Then maybe there’s a hint somewhere.”
Jamie adjusted her glasses, suddenly serious, and started rapidly throwing out several theories with the imagination of a bestselling author.
As I listened closely to her, I snapped.
“That’s it—the diary!”
I quickly pulled out Trisha’s diary that I’d brought just in case and flipped it open. The answer might be simpler than I thought. If the first weapon we got after leaving the room could solve the situation…
April 1, 1958. Could it be connected to the date of the last entry that gave the decisive hint?
195841.
If you turn that number into musical notes, it becomes Do-Re-So-Do-Fa-Do.
I grabbed the recorder rolling on the floor and brought it to my lips.
“Sister, watch out!”
But before I could even try, Smiley Bunny toppled toward me with a sudden thud.
The recorder slipped from my hands and rolled away, and our eyes met.
“Huh? There you are~ Hehe, my pretty doll!”
“Get lost! Get out of here!”
Panicked, I kicked at Smiley Bunny’s face blindly, then shouted urgently toward Nini.
“Nini! Grab the recorder and play! Do-Re-So-Do-Fa-Do! Re is high!”
Fortunately, Nini immediately grabbed the recorder and brought the mouthpiece to his lips.
Pi—
“Don’t mess it up! Play it properly!”
“How am I supposed to control that?”
Nini muttered under his breath and blew into the recorder once more.
This time, he played it perfectly.
Then something incredible happened. The recorder, stretched long along both sides, transformed into the shape of a spear.
Beginner Weapon: Disposable Sturdy Spear acquired
Good. It’s disposable, but that’s still something.
You can use this weapon to defeat the treasure keeper Smiley Bunny.
Aim for its weak points and strike accurately three times
“Nini—”
I called out to him, then stopped mid-word. If Nini handled this, wouldn’t the reward go to him instead of me?
Clenching my fists, I stood up and extended my hand.
“Give me the spear. I’ll do it!’
“Good idea.”
Nini tossed the spear toward me. Luckily, I caught it midair. Holding it in my hands, it wasn’t as heavy as I had imagined.
I aimed the tip of the spear at Smiley Bunny.
“Nooo! Bunny doesn’t want to die!”
Shut up. You die, I survive.
The weak points had to be the head, the heart, and… well, that area.
I traced from the head down to the heart, aiming carefully. I had to hit it properly.
Thinking that, I thrust the spear with all my strength—but for someone with below-average reflexes, swinging a weapon properly on the first try wasn’t easy.
“Nooo! Nooo!”
Smiley Bunny thrashed wildly, swinging its knife in a frenzy.
“Ack!”
It wasn’t a fatal wound, but in dodging an attack, the blade grazed my thigh.
I thought it was lucky it hit my leg instead of my arms or hands, and I quickly regained my grip and thrust the spear in properly.
“Gyaaah! Hurts! It hurts!”
It thrashed in pain, lunging toward me, but thanks to Nini quickly stepping in, it didn’t reach me. I drove the spear deep into the heart of the fallen Smiley Bunny from behind.
Goodbye, you crazy rabbit.
“Oww! It hurts… ugh…”
Then, to make sure it couldn’t move anymore, I plunged the spear one last time. After shivering a few more times, Smiley Bunny finally stopped moving.
The room fell silent.
“I-is it… dead?”
Jamie, who had stayed a bit back, approached nervously, biting her nails.
“Looks like it.”
I couldn’t help feeling proud that I’d actually done this in real life. I set the now-useless spear down and crouched, tearing open the spot where the spear had gone in.
“Yeah. I knew it’d be here.”
Inside, instead of a heart, was Trisha’s doll I had been so desperately seeking.
Congratulations!

You have been rewarded with 300G

Finally, one hurdle cleared.
Still, after all that effort, I couldn’t even collect 500G—it made me feel like staring at my pitifully empty bank account, almost to tears.
I picked up the doll and slowly stood.
“Amazing! Really amazing!”
Jamie hugged me tightly, tears in her eyes.

Alright! I’m being liked here.
I turned to Nini, looking at me intently.
Huh?
I followed his eyes to my leg and realized he was looking at my tight—more precisely, to my wound.
“Oh, this…”
I scratched my cheek, feeling sheepish.
“Just grazed earlier. There must be medicine in the bag.”
I pulled an emergency kit out of the bag I’d carelessly tossed aside. Inside the small pouch were disinfectant, bandages, ointment, and gauze—a surprisingly well-stocked set.
I opened the lid of the disinfectant, and Nini reached out his hand.
“Give me.”
“Did you get hurt, too?”
“You are truly dense, Sis.”
“Hey! I’m asking because I’m worried!”
He squinted at me, then knelt, snatching the bottle from my hands.
“Don’t you dare look up,” I said, lifting my squirt enough for him to see the wound.
“Why? Are you feeling shy?”
Nini gave me a playful smirk.
“We even had an indirect kiss already.”
When on earth did that happen?!
