"What's got you thinking so hard?"

Adele asked, setting a steaming cup of black tea down in front of him.

"What comes next. I'm sorry, but I think we'll have to leave soon."

"Yes, let's."

Adele nodded readily and sat down beside him.

"Once we leave, we won't be coming back to Greenhill. Not ever."

"Oh..."

"You'll miss the children, I suppose."

"I will, but I'll be with you from now on, so it's all right."

She slipped her arm through his and smiled brightly. Under that radiant smile, Christine felt some of the unease in his chest ease away.

He stroked the head she leaned against his shoulder and murmured, as if making a vow.

"Yes. From now on, we'll always be together. And we'll have a lovely child of our own, as soon as we can."
