Adele woke after only an hour. When she said she couldn't fall back asleep, Mark sighed and, true to his promise, lent her the book.

But Jade and Paulin had pestered her into playing a board game with them, and she'd ended up stuck with the two of them for the entire early evening.

Only once the boys had finally fallen asleep could she take the book and go find the silver wolf.

All that while, the silver wolf hadn't stirred at all, still deep in sleep. Watching his back rise and fall steadily with each breath, Adele could barely hold her anxiety in check.

"Chris, I came too late, didn't I? But don't be mad. I brought you a present — a book about the Wolf Clan, they said."
