Christine scolded her coldly as she gasped for breath.

"Making all this fuss over so little? And you call it skill, when you can't even land a hit on something flying at you without warning."

Jennifer bristled at that more than Adele did.

"Have you lost your mind? It's only been a week!"

"Ha. You throw it right into her line of fire and call her a genius?"

"Well — confidence matters most in the beginning."

Jennifer's voice trailed off.

At that, Christine's rebuke turned sharper still.

"Isn't it because Adele's a woman, and my fiancée, that you've been humoring her? I didn't know you were so good at flattery, Jennifer."
