After Edward tells Lucy that he has never done anything intimate like this with Sepina, Lucy is shocked.

She cannot believe him because, in the original novel, Edward and Sepina were described as lovers. She also remembers feeling warmth through the holy power connection whenever Edward met Sepina, so she assumed they had a physical relationship.
