No one could stop Cedric's mad plan to put a maid in Ines's place and carry on with the engagement ceremony after all.
In the end, the head housekeeper seriously examined Marie's body.
“If we tighten the corset… the dress should fit snugly, as Marie says. And since the hair color is similar, once the veil is on, it will be hard for anyone to realize she is not Lady Greenwood.”
“The shoes?”
“What is your foot size, Marie?”
At the head housekeeper's question, Marie gave her foot size. Her feet were bigger than Ines's, but not so much that she could not wear the shoes.
“The shoes will be a little small and hurt her feet. It might be better if she wore different ones…”
“No. I'll wear them. I'll bear it.”
Marie said, clutching her skirt. Cedric gazed absently at Marie's hands.
Hands entirely unlike Ines's.…
