Without ever hearing Karman's answer, I was thrown in a cell. Whether out of some consideration on Karman's part, I wasn't put in the underground dungeon where Julia was, but in a separate, aboveground cell set up within the palace.

The cell was small, but it had a window, and I was glad it didn't carry that musty underground smell.

Still, a cell was a cell no matter how nice it was. When I hesitated at the threshold and didn't go in, a knight prodded my back with the tip of his sword. I stumbled forward into the cell.

"Meals come twice a day. I'll see you then."

The knight locked the door firmly and turned on his heel, walking off without a glance back. The sound of his boots on the stone floor rang out heavy and solid.
