Chapter 47 · A Repeating Afterimage

A burning thirst scraped at her throat.

Isadel furrowed her brow and slowly opened her eyes. Her mouth was bone-dry, and even the tip of her tongue felt rough.

'I'm thirsty...'

Waking from sleep, Isadel slowly raised herself. Perhaps because she had slept in an uncomfortable position for a long time, the muscles of her whole body ached and pulled.

She absently groped beside her, but the vessel that should have held water was completely empty.

She let out a short sigh and turned her gaze toward the iron bars.

"Is anyone there."

She waited a moment, but no sign of anyone came from the corridor.

"What...?"

A muttered complaint of irritation escaped her. She was thirsty, but not so much that she could not hold out until morning.

Isadel lay back down on the blanket and closed her eyes.

It was the moment she was about to sink back…
