The underground crypt was silent, and somewhere, the faint sound of wind drifted in from far away.
And then came a chill unlike any they'd felt until now. She'd heard there was some hidden ventilation passage down here somewhere — that was probably the cause.
The stone coffins, lined up in orderly rows, gave off a faint glimmer even in the darkness. The busts set before each coffin looked so much like living people that it sent a shiver through her.
"It had better...... not be true......."
Seira's voice, thick with tears, echoed through the silent crypt. At that instant—
"Eek!"
Seira, looking around her, stepped on something underfoot and slipped.
Thankfully, she staggered but caught her balance. Then, when she lowered her lantern to look at what lay beneath her feet, she was struck dumb with shock.
